Updates to Contact Tracing

Updates to Contact Tracing

With increases in COVID-19 activity and at-home testing being used more widely, there has been surge of calls and emails with questions regarding isolation and quarantine. Given that at-home test results are not received by local health departments, the Livingston County Health Department (LCHD) is not able to provide documentation for at-home positive test results. Please DO NOT contact the LCHD at this time with questions regarding at-home test results. All guidance is provided on Illinois Department of Public Health’s (IDPH) website: https://dph.illinois.gov/covid19/community-guidance/quarantine-guidance.html. For those who require a letter for work, you must be tested at a facility, such as a medical office, drive-thru testing site, or pharmacy, in order to acquire documentation.

COVID-19 testing is available in Livingston County at local pharmacies, including Walgreens and CVS, and some local medical offices by appointment only. Drive-thru and walk-up testing is also available at the Interstate Center (1106 Interstate Dr, Bloomington, IL) every Monday through Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. For those requiring PCR testing, appointments are available through Heartland Community College in Pontiac by appointment only (https://www.heartland.edu/coronavirus/testing.html) and via CampusTown Urgent Care in Bloomington and Champaign (https://covidtest.center/).

IDPH is making efforts to centralize case investigation and contact tracing to the state Surge Center. All positive cases will receive an automated text message that states the following:

“IDPH COVID: There is important info for you. Call 312-777-1999 or click: ttps://dph.illinois.gov/covid19/community-guidance/confirmed-or-possible-covid-19.html”

Those who are 65 + will get an additional text message if the initial message does not result in a response. If someone has tested positive and they have not received a call or text message, they can call 312-777-1999.

Most positive cases and close contacts will speak with the IDPH Surge Center staff during the contact tracing process. LCHD will still be involved in handling some cases, including outbreaks and clusters. LCHD is still awaiting more details about the logistics of these changes and will keep the public updated as more is learned.
