The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get the flu vaccine. People at highest risk of serious flu-related complications include:

  • Young children
  • Pregnant women
  • People with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes, or heart, lung and kidney disease
  • People with weakened immune systems and
  • People 65 years and older

People at high risk for serious flu-related complications should make getting vaccinated a priority. Vaccination is also important for anyone who has close contact with a person at high risk for complications, or a child younger than 6 months of age. For more information, visit the CDC's website.

Flu Shots for Local Businesses

Annually, flu-related illness costs an estimated $10.4 billion in direct medical expenses and an additional $16.3 billion in lost earnings.  Employers can play an important role in preventing seasonal flu, helping to protect employees’ health and reducing losses in productivity and revenue.

The LCHD is happy to accommodate Livingston County businesses and reduce any barriers to their workers to receiving the flu vaccine. This service is at no cost to the employer and all vaccinations are administered by a well-trained LCHD nurse.

Insurance card and ID are required as Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance will be billed. Accommodations will be made for those without insurance. For more information about business-based flu shot clinics, please call 815-844-7174.
